Knights Basketball Advances to State Semifinals
The Varsity Basketball team won a nailbiter against Dartmouth on Saturday, March 8 at UMass-Boston in the Division 2 South bracket finals to advance to the state semifinals to be held Monday night at the TD Banknorth Garden. Brendan Monteiro led the Knights with 22 points, including a breathtaking sixteen-foot jumpshot to give his squad a 81-79 lead with 1.1 seconds on the clock. On Monday, the Knights get a second chance in as many years to vie for CM's first state championship in almost thirty years. Varsity Hockey reaches Crossover Bracket on Collins breakaway
Senior forward Mike Collins wrestled his way out of neutral zone traffic to score in sudden-death overtime on a thrilling breakaway on Sunday, March 9 in the final round of Super-8 bracket play. Tom Conlin recorded 29 heroic saves in goal against the BC High Eagles. The Knights take the 3-2 win into the crossover bracket on Wednesday night at 8pm as they face Catholic Conference rival Malden Catholic. The game will take place at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, with the winner entering the Division IA finals at the TD Banknorth Garden March 16. |

Congratulations: Eight Grader Mark Woodall who placed 3rd in poetry at the Middle School Speech Competition held at the Wilson School in Natick on Sunday. Congratulations also goes out to Ellen Eberly who coaches the team. Nick Colarossi and the members of the Drama Club who competed in the Mass Drama Festival on Saturday. The CM actors performed “A Number” by Caryl Churchill. (Frosh.) Brendan Shea and (Soph.) Connor Lynch were named best actors, and the cast was recognized for its inclusive environment by receiving the Participation of Excellence Award. The CM production was also recognized for its original concept in going beyond the limits of the script. This was the first time in history that CM participated in the festival. Thanks to Nick’s hard work. Coach Bill Hanson, his staff and the Varsity Hockey team for their victory over Waltham 2-0 in the State Tournament. Goals were scored by (Frosh) Marc Hetnick and (Soph) Derek Colucci. The team’s next game will be at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell this coming Thursday at 6:00 pm against Reading. The team will play again on Sunday in Lowell vs. BC High the time is TBA. Coach Denis Tobin, his staff and the Varsity Basketball team with victories over Franklin 69-61 and Quincy 83-56 in the State Tournament. (Sr.) Brendan Monteiro led the team with 34 points in the Quincy game. The team’s next game will be on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Taunton HS vs. Falmouth HS. Coach Vin Catano, his staff, (Jr.) Nahed Lakkis and (Soph.) Ed Colvin who both competed in the All-State Meet last week. Nahed finished 19th in the mile and Eddie 18th in the two mile. Both athletes had outstanding seasons. Rich Wingert who had a great season in Wrestling. Rich didn’t place in the New England Tournament but has still qualified for the Nationals the end of March. Congratulations also goes out to Coach Bill Hahn and his staff. Thank You: Mike Motyl who organized and ran the Ski trip this past week. Thanks also goes out to Pat Murray and Tom Jordan who helped chaperone the trip. Rich Bloomstein for all his hard work remodeling the Chemistry lab during the winter vacation. Thanks also goes out to Br. Phelps for his assistance. Connor Lynch '10 and Brendan Shea '11 won Best Actor awards on March 1 at the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Festival, held at Attleborough High School. Over a dozen CM students competed against talented thespians from over a hundred schools across the state. Mr. Colarossi coached the performance of "A Number" by Caryl Churchhill, which included actors from grades nine through twelve. This was CM's debut in the festival and these Knights' performance shows what a strong future CM drama has. |
