Dr. Robert K. McIntyre ’81

Dr. Robert K. McIntyre graduated Boston University School of Medicine in 1993 and completed his training in internal medicine at Boston Medical Center in 1996. He has been in practice for 24 years, initially as a primary care doctor in Waltham and since 2012, as a hospitalist. In 2016, he became the Medical Director for the Hospital Medicine program at South Shore Hospital and in 2019, became the Chairman of Medicine. He continues to see patients admitted to the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA.

Dr. McIntyre is board certified in Internal Medicine. He is an Internist with 20+ years of clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient and SNF (skilled nursing facility) setting. His leadership experience includes a variety of settings such as primary care, skilled nursing facility and division of Hospital Medicine. Dr. McIntyre has been involved with operations and strategic planning throughout his career and has served as an officer of several different PHOs as well as a member of the hospital Board of Trustees at several hospitals.

As a hospital-based clinician, his practice is dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based, and efficient patient and family-centered care to patients with complex medical conditions while they are at the hospital.

Dr. McIntyre served as a Captain, Medical Corp. in the Massachusetts Army National Guard providing medical services to soldiers during times of active duty. Very early in his career, he was a Research Assistant at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury. He is published as a co-author in a clinical research journal and has given a number of presentations to a range of audiences including community groups as well as medical professionals.

Over the past 20 years, Dr. McIntyre has been on numerous committees at the hospitals at which he practiced and currently serves on the Medical Executive Committee and several other strategic planning committees at South Shore Hospital.

Dr. McIntyre graduated from Catholic Memorial in 1981. Three of his four brothers are also CM alumni, Stephen ’87, James ’90 and David ’92. Dr. McIntyre, his wife, Susan and four sons reside in Westwood. In his community, he was a Den Leader for the Cob Scouts, a volunteer coach for youth basketball, hockey and provided medical oversight for the youth football program.
