WEST ROXBURY, Mass. —
After a strong season, the Catholic Memorial varsity football team's offseason has taken an exciting turn, as the school welcomes former Everett High School football coach John DiBiaso as its new varsity football coach and Associate Athletic Director.

"After an extensive search process, we are excited to announce the hiring of John DiBiaso as our next head football coach," said Catholic Memorial Athletic Director Craig Najarian. "Our goal was to identify and attract a football coach with an elite pedigree and a talent for building a championship caliber program. Catholic Memorial is a destination job, and our student-athletes deserve a high-quality educator and coach. Coach DiBiaso is, without a doubt, the best football coach in New England. He will have a profound impact at CM on the football field, in our classrooms, and in our community."

DiBiaso, who led Everett to the 2017 Division I State Championship and was named MIAA Division I Coach of the Year, had announced his retirement last month after 26 seasons at Everett. He brings to CM a legacy that includes 13 Super Bowls and a career record of 304–75–1— third in all-time in Massachusetts high school football.

"I started my career at a Catholic school, and I'm excited to be back in a place like Catholic Memorial," said DiBiaso. "Its moral compass and the character development that happens here every day produces outstanding student-athletes. CM has a long-standing commitment to academic and athletic excellence, and I believe that I can contribute to that."

"CM has top-notch academic programs, outstanding athletic facilities, and strong student-athletes. Their leadership and their commitment to success will make this one of the best programs in New England."

"The entire community has welcomed my family and me into the CM family. I'm very excited to get to work and build upon the football tradition here."

DiBiaso is a beloved educator in the Everett community who has inspired and transformed the lives of many students over his career. His approach to coaching and education aligns with Catholic Memorial’s commitment to scholarship, engagement, and character. His dedication to character development and success in college placement are unparalleled.

"We are thrilled to have such a mission-driven educator join our community," said CM President, Dr. Peter Folan. "When we hire teachers or administrators, we look for people with great knowledge, the ability to inspire young men, and a dedication to our mission. Coach DiBiaso possesses these qualities; I am confident he will have an immediate impact on our community as an educator, coach, and mentor. He joins a group of amazing teacher-coaches here at Catholic Memorial who care about our students and inspire them to pursue greatness."

DiBiaso inherits a program with a great athletic tradition and the honor of competing as the smallest school in Division 1 athletics. In 2017, former New England Patriot and CM parent Brent Williams P’08, P’12 led the Knights to a 6–5 record, an appearance in the Division 1 Sectional Championship, and victories over rivals Xaverian, Malden Catholic, Brockton, and BC High.

"In our 60-year history, Catholic Memorial has always used the athletic classroom to instill the values of camaraderie, grit, and determination," said Principal Thomas Beatty ’68. "We've had a history of great success with that approach, winning 31 State titles and countless Catholic Conference Championships across all our athletic programs. We have a reputation as fierce competitors, but we're also recognized for our sportsmanship and teamwork. Coach DiBiaso will build upon this legacy through his incredible leadership, coaching ability, and commitment to students."
