CM Football Captains Visit Gillette Stadium for MIAA Super Bowl Breakfast

The five senior captians, accompanied by Mr. Thomas Beatty '68 and Mr. Craig Najarian, arrived at Gillette ready to pick home-and-away teams and to go over logisitics for Super Bowl Saturday.
Foxboro, Mass.— “Heads” it is.

Catholic Memorial School received the away-team designation from the MIAA for their upcoming Super Bowl against Saint John’s Prep following a coin-flip at the MIAA annual Super Bowl Breakfast on Tuesday morning.

CM’s football captains joined 15 championship finalists across the state's eight divisions at the MIAA’s annual breakfast. Captains Hunter Tully, Hunter Salmon, Lucas Folan, Khari Johnson, and Gerard McDermott accompanied CM Principal Mr. Thomas Beatty ’68 and Athletic Director Mr. Craig Najarian in Gillette Stadium’s Optum Field Lounge for the breakfast.

The program, designed to celebrate the state’s 16 finalists and to go over gameday logistics, gives players from each school a chance to walk the field, choose home-and-away teams, and talk to the media. This year, Mr. Nick Caserio, the director of player personnel for the New England Patriots, served as the event’s guest speaker before all 16 teams gathered for a coin-flip ceremony to determine home-and-away teams.

After a few opening remarks from Gillette Stadium’s Executive Director of events, Mr. Phil Buttafuoco, Mr. Caserio advised each player to play with class and humility during Saturday’s championship games. Mr. Caserio offered the student-athletes a final message before leaving the podium.

“The secret to all victory, lies in the organization of the non-obvious,” said Mr. Caserio, quoting Virginia Tech head basketball coach Buzz Williams.

During the event’s coin-flip ceremony, CM received “tails” and lost. As a result, they received the away team designation and locker room. They will wear their white uniforms on Saturday. CM finished their regular reason with a perfect away record (4-0).

The MIAA designated the away fan section for sections 110-112.

After shaking hands with the Saint John’s Prep captains, the CM student-athletes walked the field. They took in the sight and paused every now and then for some photos together. Tossing around the custom MIAA Super Bowl game ball in their dark blue blazers, the student-athletes found time to relax and enjoy their moment.

From now until Saturday night at 8 p.m., they’ll have plenty of time to strategize for the biggest game of the season.
