Michael Doyle McNally '79, P'22

Michael Doyle McNally '79, P'22, was a visionary leader who founded Maverick Corporation in 1996. What began as a small company operating out of the back of a South Boston bar, named after his beloved Samoyed, grew into a highly successful multinational corporation. Driven by his unwavering determination and entrepreneurial spirit, Michael expanded Maverick into a global force, executing major projects across the United States, the Caribbean, Russia, Poland, and Mexico. In addition to his role as CEO and President of Maverick, he was the Managing Partner and Founder of Maverick Energy Services in Ireland and One Source Power in Boston, leaving an indelible mark on the industries he touched.

A standout athlete during his time at Catholic Memorial, Michael was a key member of the 1978 Super Bowl Championship football team, which was inducted into the CM Hall of Fame in 2010. He set records as a track and field athlete, served as class president for the Class of 1979, and was actively involved in the Drama Club, Dance Committee, Ski Club, and Student Government.

After graduating from Boston College in 1985, Michael remained deeply connected to the CM community as an influential alumnus and parent. He served on the CM Board of Directors for 11 years, leading and supporting numerous campus renovations. Michael was instrumental in the development of the Walsh Field House through his leadership of the Facilities Committee, as well as supporting the Yawkey Center for Integrated and Applied Learning, the renovation of Donahue Hall, and O’Connor Stadium. He also served on his reunion committee and volunteered as a Class Agent.

Beyond his contributions to Catholic Memorial, Michael was actively involved in several state and local boards, including the Massachusetts School Building Authority Owner’s Project Managers Review Board and the Board of South Boston Catholic Academy.

In September of 2023, Michael was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. Throughout his fourteen-month battle, he showed incredible resilience, always moving forward with unwavering strength. He spent his final months surrounded by his children, Caroline McNally and Michael McNally, Jr., ’22, who were his devoted caretakers. Michael passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Michael's zest for life, generosity, and deep love for his family were unparalleled. His commitment to his children, his steadfast support, and his selfless nature were the foundation of his character. His accomplishments were numerous, but it was his determination, vision, grace, and sense of humor that left an indelible impact on all who knew him.

What truly set Michael apart was the way he treated others. He never met a stranger and extended love, respect, and kindness to everyone he encountered, regardless of their background.

Michael was a proud Catholic Memorial graduate, always giving back to his alma mater with a heart full of gratitude and pride. Catholic Memorial is privileged to have been part of Michael’s life, and it is with great honor that we recognize him with the 2025 Vince in Bono Malum Award—an award presented to him in person before his passing.

Thank you, Michael. Your spirit, your heart, and your legacy are deeply missed.
